International Women’s Day: joining The Partnership for Gender Equity

This year, the International Women’s Day theme is #BalanceForBetter – and they can explain best what that means:

“Balance is not a women’s issue, it’s a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage …

Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.”

And this is why Pact Coffee is so passionate about gender equity in the coffee industry. Because not only are women underrepresented and under-appreciated, they are essential to the future of coffee. That’s why we’ve joined The Partnership for Gender Equity.

Here’s Head Roaster Stephen Gray’s statement:

“Part of what makes the speciality coffee industry amazing is the willingness of its members to recognise and advocate the brilliant work of others. For us at Pact to be a force for good, it’s crucial that we seek to ally with and support those individuals and groups who are pointed towards the same goals as us. When I learned about Equal Origins, I understood the importance of their work towards gender equity and sustainability in an industry fraught with complex difficulties. By joining with other roasteries and organisations in supporting their efforts, we are proud to be contributing to a sustainable future for this incredible industry.”

Working in a practical way to promote research, training, education and empowerment projects is something we’re really excited to now be a part of. If you do nothing else this International Women’s Day, take a look at the work the Partnership for Gender Equity does and see how they’re promoting #BalanceForBetter.
